About Patrick
Patrick Fogarty is a Director and Adviser at Rutherford Rede, where he advises families, business owners, trusts, charities, and foundations on the stewardship of significant wealth. His clients include partners in leading law and accounting firms, members of the judiciary, senior executives, entrepreneurs, and families navigating major liquidity events, intergenerational wealth transfers, and other complex financial decisions.
Before returning to New Zealand in 2018, Patrick spent more than a decade in London working within global asset management, including with Dimensional Fund Advisors. This experience shaped the philosophy he brings to clients today: evidence-based investment management, disciplined decision-making, and a focus on long-term outcomes rather than short-term market noise.
Patrick's role often extends beyond investment advice. He works closely with clients' accountants, lawyers, trustees, and other trusted advisers to help coordinate the many decisions that accompany substantial wealth. Patrick works alongside clients and their professional advisers to bring clarity and coordination to complex financial matters, helping ensure wealth is managed thoughtfully across generations.
Outside his professional work, Patrick serves as a Director of the Dementia Auckland Foundation and Treasurer of the International Commission of Jurists.
Patrick lives in Auckland with his English wife, Sophie, and their three children. Away from the office, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, whether boating, spearfishing, surfing, or playing golf. Whenever possible, he can be found at the family's bach in the Marlborough Sounds.
