About Herna

Herna joined Rutherford Rede in 2018, bringing with her seven years of experience in the financial planning industry in South Africa. Herna’s interest in financial planning grew from seeing how important good advice can be in helping families make confident, informed decisions about their future. Since then, she has built a broad range of expertise across financial planning, client service, operations and leadership, providing her with a practical and well-rounded perspective on helping clients achieve their goals.

Herna enjoys helping individuals and families feel more confident and in control of their financial future. She believes financial advice should be practical, easy to understand and tailored to each person’s unique circumstances, helping clients make decisions that support what is important to them and their families. Whether clients are building wealth, planning for retirement, protecting their families or preparing for the future, Herna works alongside them to develop personalised strategies that create clarity, choice, and peace of mind. She enjoys breaking down complex financial decisions into clear, manageable steps so clients feel informed and supported.

 Having worked across advisory, compliance and operational roles throughout her career, Herna brings strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a deep understanding of the advice process. Clients appreciate her clear communication, approachable style and commitment to building long-term relationships based on trust and thoughtful, practical advice.

Outside of work, Herna enjoys spending time with her husband, Simon, their son, and supporting her daughter as she embarks on her university studies. As a family, they love exploring New Zealand's beautiful outdoors and making the most of the opportunities their adopted home has to offer.
