Phil Ashton
Phil has worked in chartered accountancy and financial management roles in NZ and the United Kingdom. He qualified as a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1975.
In 1989 Phil joined the then-fledgling financial planning profession with IPD Securities and has worked actively in the profession since. He secured a post-graduate Diploma in Business Studies, endorsed in Financial Planning, through Massey University and was subsequently permitted to use the international accreditation of a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) in 1997.
Under the new Financial Markets regulations of 2010 Phil has earned the qualification as an Authorised Financial Adviser (AFA). Also in 2010, through further study, he achieved the status of an 'AIF' – Accredited Investment Fiduciary.
Phil is a founding director and shareholder of Rutherford Rede Limited, and is based in the Auckland office. His overall business and tax strengths and extensive experience in advising and guiding clients have allowed him to create strong relationships with both clients and referral sources alike.
In 2006/7 Phil was President of Takapuna North Rotary and has been actively involved in community affairs for much of his adult life. He enjoys the outdoors, particularly alpine tramping, tennis, running and his beloved Liverpool FC.
Phil's personal and business philosophy is that virtually all his compensation is received on a fee-only basis. This ensures Phil offers financial advice that it is arms-length and unbiased. He receives commission only from KiwiSaver providers where drawing a client-paid fee is impracticable at present.
